Christian Atsu Was Battling Divorce With Wife Before His Death – Report Claims

According to a source from Ghanasoccernet.net, late Ghanaian footballer Christian Atsu was struggling with divorce before he passed away.

After a 7.8-magnitude earthquake shook Turkey a few weeks ago, killing over 40,000 people and wounding many more, the winger passed away there.

Christian Atsu and his wife had reportedly been estranged for some time before the Turkey earthquake claimed his life after his building fell, according to Ghanasoccernet, who broke the story.

Christian Atsu’s wife reportedly released a book titled “Stop Bullying Me” in 2021, which became one of the most popular books on Amazon, but it was reported that Atsu did not share or support his wife’s project.

But, Atsu’s 12-year marriage to his German wife, Marie-Clarie, started to fall apart as his time at Newcastle came to an end.

When Atsu’s mother-in-law moved in with them in the UK in 2021, his marital issues started. Atsu felt alone at home as a result of the wife’s increased attention to the mother.

Because his mother-in-law now runs the household, he occasionally found it difficult to play with his kids, a source informed GHANAsoccernet.com.

Atsu was utterly incensed by this. He told the wife to ask her mother nicely to go to Germany so that they may continue living their private lives.

Because she thought the player didn’t want her mother to live with them, which is how their marital problems started, his wife objected to the plan.

Atsu only had two months left on his contract with Newcastle at the time, thus he was actively seeking a new team.

The insider continued, “At this point, a reputable Ghanaian football agent was able to secure him a position with a Turkish team, but the player was not eager to work there.

After failing to find a club in Europe, Atsu relocated to Saudi Arabia and joined with Al Raed. The wife then utilized his absence to seek for a divorce because of a long-standing argument they had before he went for Saudi Arabia.

“He decided to go back to Ghana because of injuries and a decline in performance in Saudi Arabia. Even if it was only for a season, he had intentions to play for his boyhood team, Hearts of Oak, before he thought about putting up his boots.

At that time, he changed his mind about his career goals and realized that he required money to pay for a lot of unfinished projects in Ghana.

So he decided to postpone donning the Rainbow shirt so that he might agree to a lucrative new contract with another European organization.

Hatayaspor was his only option, therefore he made the decision to move to Turkey. Keep in mind that he declined a lucrative offer from an unheard-of Turkish team before relocating to Saudi Arabia in order to spend his final years with Hearts of Oak.

Atsu would have gone back to Ghana and been playing in the Ghana Premier League if the divorce process hadn’t started.
