GES makes student travel 7hrs to receive Ghc200 as award

Many people are upset with the Ghana Education Service for making a student travel 428 kilometers to collect the GHc200 prize for being the best student.

A student from the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD UBIDS) was reportedly forced to journey by some GES officials in the Gushegu District in order to receive GHc200 for being the top WASSCE student of his time.

After the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results were announced in 2022, Abdul-Latif Fawei was recognized as the top pupil in the Gushegu district.

In order to reward him for being the smartest student with a high grade, the Ghana Education Service asked the young man, who is currently attending college, to travel to the Gushegu district.

According to reports, the young man traveled 122 kilometers to Gushegu after traveling 306,4 kilometers from Wa to Tamale on the authorities’ request.

In a statement to the media, he expressed his frustration, saying, “I traveled to Gushegu on March 6th, which was yesterday, for the award as best WASSCE student of Gushegu SHS. The education director gave me an envelope holding 200 Ghanaian dollars.
