Prez Nana announces state funeral for Chrisitan Atsu

President Nana Addo disclosed that the State will do everything possible to give the footballer, Christian Atsu a  “dignified exit.” Christian Atsu died in a 7.8 earthquake in Turkey after playing for his new team.

When he met a delegation from the late footballer’s family at Jubilee House in Accra, he said, “It is my duty and role as President to make sure that occurs.”

The head of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, accompanied the delegation from the family of Christian Atsu to the Jubilee House to meet the president.

Speaking to the Twasam family representatives, President Nana Addo referred to the late football player as “an outstanding athlete and a gift to our country.” Many Ghanaians, he said, “were made to believe he was okay at first, and then came the definitive news that he had been summoned by the Almighty,” making the news of his passing a torturous experience.

“I want to express to you his family and the sporting football fraternity of Ghana, my deep condolences for what has happened…and I speak not just for myself but the entire 31 million people of our country.

“Our responsibility is to give you as much support as we can. We can never erase the loss of this very brilliant man.

“The Ghanaian people must express their appreciation for the work that he did for our nation and the contribution he made to the development of the game and sports in general,” he said.
